Prophet Muhammad(Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) left for Taif ( a city in Saudi Arabia) with the hope
of winning them over to Islam, thus providing quarters for Muslims from the persecution
of the Qureysh(the tribe of Mecca), and also establishing a base for the future propagation of Islam.
On reaching Taif he visited the three chieftains of the clan separately, and
placed before each of them the message of Allah, and called upon him to stand
by his (Prophet's) side. Instead of accepting his message they refused even to
listen to him and notwithstanding the proverbial Arab hospitality each of them
treated him most contemptuously and rudely.
They plainly told him that they did
not like his stay in their town. The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) had
expected a civil, even cordial treatment and due courtesy in speech from them
as they were heads of the clan, but one of them sneered:
"Hey, Allah has made
you a prophet!"
The other exclaimed with derision:
"Could Allah not lay His hand on anyone
else, besides you. To make him His Prophet?"
The third one gibed at him:
"I don't want to talk to you, for
if you are in fact a prophet then to oppose you is to invite trouble, and
if you only pretend to be one why should I talk with an imposter?"
The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) who was a rock of steadfastness and
perseverance, did not lose heart over this setback from the chieftains, He
tried to approach the common people; but nobody would listen to him, instead,
they asked him to clear off from their town and go wherever else he liked.
When he realized that further efforts were in vain, he decided to leave the
town. But they would not let him depart in peace, and set the street urchins
after him, to hiss, to hoot, to jeer at, and to stone him. He was so much pelted
with stones that his whole body was covered with blood and his shoes were clogged
to his feet. He left the town in this woeful plight. When he was far out of
the town, and safe from the rabble, he prayed to Allah thus:
"O, my Allah! To thee I complain of
the feebleness of my strength, of my lack of resourcefulness, and my insignificance
in the eyes of the people. O, Most Merciful of all capable of showing mercy!
Thou art the Lord of the weak and thou art my own Lord. To whom art Thou
to entrust me, to an unsympathetic foe who would sullenly frown on me, or
to an alien to whom thou hast given control over my affair? Not in the least
do I care for anything except that I may have thy protection for myself.
In the light of Thy face do I seek shelter - the light of which illumines
the Heaven and dispels all sorts of darkness, and which controls all affairs
in this world as well as in the hereafter. May it never be that I should
incur Thy wrath, or that Thou should be displeased with me. I must remove
the cause of Thy displeasure till thou art pleased. There is no strength
nor power but through Thee."
The Heavens were moved by the prayer and Jabrail(p)( Arch Angel Gabriel) appeared before the Prophet
(Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) greeting him with Assalamoalaikum(peace be upon you) and said:
"Allah knows all that has passed between
you and these people He has deputed an angel in charge of the mountains to
be at your command."
Saying this Jabrail (p)(Gabriel) ushered the angel before
the Prophet. The
angel greeted the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and said:
"O, Prophet of Allah! I am at your
service. If you wish, I can cause the mountains overlooking this town on
both sides to collide with each other, so that all the people therein would
be crushed to death, or you may suggest any other punishment for them."
The merciful and noble Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:
"Even if these people do not accept
Islam, I do hope from Allah that there will be persons from among their progeny
who would worship Allah and serve His cause."
Behold the conduct of our noble Prophet whom we profess to follow! We get
so much irritated over little trouble or a mere abuse from somebody that we
keep on torturing and taking our revenge throughout our lives in every possible
manner. Does this behove people who claim to follow the magnanimous Prophet
(Sallallahu alayhi wasallam)? Look, even after so much suffering at the hands
of the Taif mob he neither curses them nor does he desire any revenge even
when he has the full opportunity to do so.
NOTE: Needless to say the people of the City Taif today are all Muslims if the Prophet would not have show patience at the rude behaviour of fore fathers of people of Taif and would have asked God to punish them the whole generation would have perished including the present generation which later became Muslims
BY THE PATIENCE , SACRIFICE AND BLOOD OF THE PROPHET HAD ISLAM BEEN SPREAD IN THE WORLD IF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (S) WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS THEN WHERE WOULD BE ISLAM TODAY? OR WHERE WOULD BE MUSLIMS TODAY?

The High Station of Man (part one)

By MAWLANA JALALUDDIN RUMI Jalaluddin Rumi(r) a great poet and Sufi saint
The High Station of Man (part one)
Mathnawi VI: 129-140
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The inquiry of a questioner about a bird which was (assumed
to be) seated on top of the walls of a city: "Is its head
more excellent, venerable, noble, and honored-- or its
tail?" And the preacher's giving a reply to the questioner
(in accordance) with the extent of his understanding.1
129 One day a questioner said to a preacher: "O (you who
are) the most sublime speaker of the pulpit,2
130 "There is one question of mine. Tell (me) the answer to
my question in this gathering, O (you who are) endowed with
pure intelligence!3
"A bird sat on the fortified walls (of a city).
Regarding its head and tail, which of these is better?"
"(The preacher) replied, "If its face is toward the city
and (its) tail toward the (outer) countryside,4 know that
its face (is) better than its tail.
"But if (its) tail is toward the city (and) its face
toward the (outer) countryside, (then) be the dust on that
(bird's) tail and leap away from its face."5
The bird flies to (its) nest with (its) wings. (But) the
wings of mankind, O people, are (spiritual) aspiration.6
135 (In regard to) a lover (of God) who has become tainted
by good and evil, don't look at (his) good and evil (but)
see (his spiritual) aspiration.7
Even though a (royal) falcon is (pure) white and without
equal, it is contemptible if its prey is a (lowly) mouse.8
But if there is an (ugly) owl, and its longing (is)
toward the King, it (possessed of) the falcon's head9-- (so)
don't look at the hood.10
Mankind, with the (physical) stature of a (mere) basin
(for kneading) dough11 has increased [in its spiritual
aspiration] beyond the (seven) heavens and the ether.12
The heavens never heard (the Divine words), "We have
honored (the children of Adam)"13 which this humanity (so)
full of sorrow has heard.
140 Did anyone [else] offer beauty, intelligence, meaningful
words, and desire to the heavens and the earth?14
Deep Spiritual Meaning] of Jalaluddin Rumi.
Notes on the text, with line number:
1. (Heading) (in accordance) with the extent of his
understanding: refers to a saying of the Prophet Muhammad,
"Speak to people in accordance with the amount of their
understanding" [kallimi 'n-nâsa `alà qadri `uqûli-him].
2. (129) O (you who are) the most sublime speaker of the
pulpit: "It means, 'You are the preacher who is the best of
the preachers in admonishing and explaining clearly. And
you make every question understood by the listener with an
excellent explanation.'" (Anqaravi, the famous 17th century
Turkish commentator, translated here into English from a
Persian translation)
3. (130) O (you who are) endowed with pure intelligence:
Nicholson translated, "O possessor of the marrow (of
wisdom)." "It means, 'O possessor of intelligence and
wisdom.'" (Anqaravi, Commentary)
4. (132) toward the (outer) countryside: Nicholson
translated, "to the country." Apparently the reference is to
the villages outside of the protective walls of a city. For
Rumi, village life symbolizes sensuality and ignorance while
city life symbolizes spiritual advancement and refinement.
Nicholson referred to Rumi's lines (which he translated),
"Do not go to the country [deh]: the country makes a fool of
a man, it makes the intellect void of light and splendour. O
chosen one, hear the Prophet's saying: 'To dwell in the
country is the grave of the intellect' If any one stay in
the country a single day and evening, his intellect will not
be fully restored for a month. For a (whole) month
foolishness will abide with him: what but these things
should he reap from the parched herbage of the country? And
he that stays a month in the country, ignorance and
blindness will be his (lot) for a long time. What is 'the
country'? The Shaykh [= spiritual master] that has not been
united (with God), but has become addicted to
conventionality and argument. Compared with the town, (which
is) Universal Reason, these senses (of ours) are like asses
(going round and round) in an ass-mill with their eyes
bandaged." (III: 517-523) Nicholson quoted (in Arabic) this
saying attributed to the Prophet Muhammad: "al-tawattun fí
'l-qurá qabr-un li-'l-nuhá" [= The habitual living in
villages is the grave of intelligence]. (Commentary)
5. (133) (then) be the dust on that (bird's) tail and leap
away from its face: "i.e. 'follow devotedly any one who in
spirit (reality) is travelling towards the Truth, though in
the body (superficially) he is turned the opposite way'."
(Nicholson, Commentary)
"In this speech, the intended meaning of 'tail' is the
body, and the intended meaning of 'face' is resolved aim and
aspiration. If you see that someone's intention and
aspiration (is) away from worldly people and toward the
'city of Truth,' and you have witnessed that his inclination
and love (is) for the people on the path of spiritual
realization [aSHâb-é Tarîqat-é ma`rifat], his purpose and
determination are more noble and excellent than his body....
But if his attention is toward the world and toward worldly
people, his body is more noble and excellent than his aim
and aspiration." (Anqaravi, Commentary)
6. (134) the wings of mankind, O people, are (spiritual)
aspiration: Nicholson referred to similar verses (which he
translated), "Do not regard thy ugly or beauteous form;
regard Love and the object of thy search. Do not regard the
fact that thou art despicable or infirm; look upon thy
aspiration, O noble one. In whatsoever state thou be, keep
searching; O thou with dry lip, always be seeking the
water." (III: 1437-1439)
"In a similar way that the bird flies with wings and
feathers, mankind possessed of desire also flies with the
wings and feathers of aspiration and intention. And... they
arrive to the nest of Origin and the station of Union."
(Anqaravi, Commentary)
7. (135) (but) see (his spiritual) aspiration: As the
Prophet Muhammad said, "Truly, the actions (of a person) are
(judged by God) according to the intentions [an-niyyat]."
Just prior to this section, Rumi had said (as translated by
Nicholson), "Yet all these (evil) qualities of theirs may
become good: evil does not remain when it turns to seeking
good. If egoism is foul smelling like semen, (yet) when it
attains unto the spirit (spirituality) it gains light. Every
mineral that sets its face towards (aspires to evolve into)
the plant (the vegetative state)-- life grows from the tree
of its fortune. Every plant that turns its face towards the
(animal) spirit drinks, like [= the mysterious prophet]
Khizr, from the fountain of [= Eternal] Life. Once more,
when the (animal) spirit sets its face towards the (Divine)
beloved, it lays down its baggage (and passes) into the life
without end." (VI: 124-128)
"(It means), 'Any lover whose aspiration is directed
toward the Presence of God, one cannot maintain an opinion
(about his) worth and value-- for his sake. (For) if his
intention is lofty, but his (outward) form is soiled with
good and bad, he will not be made to attain a lowly rank of
harm and loss (as) his (final) dwelling." (Anqaravi,
Commentary)
8. (136) it is contemptible if its prey is a (lowly) mouse:
The meaning is that a trained royal falcon of the king
should bring back a worthy prey for the king. "It means, 'If
someone is like an incomparable white falcon and (is) the
accepted and beloved one of the king of the world; and if
his quarry and prey is a contemptible mouse of the world and
the worldly realm; necessarily, he is also lowly and
contemptible.'" (Anqaravi, Commentary)
9. (137) it (possessed of) the falcon's head: Nicholson
translated, "it is (noble as) the falcon's head." "But if
his form and dwelling is lowly and contemptible, yet his
aspiration is lofty and noble, he is... a person of high
worth." (Anqaravi, Commentary)
10. (137) don't look at the hood: "I.e. the bodily form
which masks its spiritual nature." (Nicholson, Footnote)
11. (138) a (mere) basin (for kneading) dough: Nicholson
translated, "a kneading-trough (scooped in a log)." "The
intended meaning of the expression (is)... a wooden tray
specially designed for dough, the depth of which is more
than (that) of a tray." (Anqaravi, Commentary)
12. (138) beyond the (seven) heavens and the ether:
Nicholson translated, "Man... has surpassed (in glory) the
heavens and the aether (the empyrean)." According to ancient
astronomy, beyond earth, water, air, and fire was a
substance called ether which extended to the highest
heavens, filling all space in between.
13. (139) (the Divine words), "We have honored (the children
of Adam)": refers to a verse from the Qur'an in which God
speaks in the "plural of majesty": "And We have surely
honored the children of Adam. And We have caused them to be
carried (on transport) on the earth and sea, given them
provision of pure and good things, and have greatly favored
them above most of what We have created" (17:70). This
describes the original state of mankind before the Fall into
forgetfulness of God and of spiritual realities. This verse
is also understood to allude to the human qualities (such as
reason, judgment between good and evil, and yearning and
aspiration) which animals lack and which make mankind
(potentially) superior to the angels.
"According to this meaning, it becomes known that (in
regard to) being large and possessed of magnificent form and
shape, (Man) lacks weight and value. But he is (worthy) in
view of intelligence, spiritual realization [ma`rifat],
knowledge, and virtue of character [Husn-é sîrat]."
(Anqaravi, Commentary)
14. (140) to the heavens and the earth: Nicholson
translated, "Did any one offer to earth and sky (his) beauty
and reason and eloquence and fond affection?" These refer to
human qualities which the rest of creation lack. It is also
a reference to the verse: "Certainly We offered the Trust to
the heavens, the earth, and the mountains but they refused
to bear it, being afraid of it. But mankind bore it. Truly,
he tends to be unjust and foolish." (Qur'an 33:72). The
Trust [al-amânat] is generally interpreted to mean
intelligence, free-will, and (especially) the responsibility
to choose between good and evil.
The Generous King
There is a Generous King who refuses to take taxes from His subjects
Happy are the
people in His Kingdom
The people
of His kingdom are mainly farmers
They sell their
products of the farm to the King
Who gives a very high price for their products
Even though
the King knows that his subjects products are not worth that much
Nevertheless
the King out of His generosity pays His subjects a high price to please them
One day the subjects brought their products to the Kings
court to sell them in a hope of generous reward from the King as usual .
But this time
they did not receive a single penny from
the King
The subjects
where grief stricken with this behavior of their King
In their
grief they started shouting “ we have been cheated by our King and we are left penniless now”
The King said
to His subjects be quiet first pay me my taxes for using my Kingdoms land
Pay me the
tax for using my Kingdoms water
Pay Me the tax
for using my Kingdoms Sunlight
Pay me the
tax for breathing my Kingdoms air
At this
demand of the King His subjects where left speechless
The King
said “O” my subjects for once I withhold my reward,
you people start to shout at me
But I being
a generous King never asked of you any tax for utilizing the resources
of my kingdom
And the
reward I gave in exchange of your products was far more than your products worth
just to make you people happy
I in the
first place never needed your products for I have plenty in my treasury
My whole aim
of buying your products was to keep you people busy with work
So that you
people don’t fall to evil ways if I gave
you the money free without work
Hearing this
speech of the King His subjects began to cry with shame and regrets for being
ungrateful and impatient with the King
They sang as
they cried
“ O” generous King please forgive us
For if you don’t
forgive us who in the world will provide for ungrateful servants like us
How lucky we
are to have a generous King like you
And how sad
it is for you to have ungrateful subjects like us
Hearing the
repentance of His subjects the King sang
“O” My
servants despair not of my mercy for I am the ever forgiving and ever generous
One
I am the never-ending
Ocean of mercy and generosity without
any shores
For my Ocean
was over flowing with mercy and generosity and hence I created you and this
Universe
By your sins
and ungratefulness my mercy and generosity is displayed in this universe
For I am the
ever Generous and Ever forgiving One
My
servants sins and ungratefulness can
never exhaust my Ocean of mercy and generosity provided they repent before Me .
My friends
the generous King is our Lord the Most High and the Ungrateful subjects are us
The farming is our worship and the products are
our good deeds and prayers to the Lord
"Do not pass by these people who are being tormented, without weeping
Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: When the Messenger of Allah(Muhammad)
(PBUH) and his Companions reached Al-Hijr, the dwellings of the Thamud people,
he admonished his Companions (saying), "Do not
pass by these people who are being tormented, without weeping, lest the
punishment should befall you as it had befallen them.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Another narration is: Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with
them) said: When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) passed near Al-Hijr, he
said, "Do not enter without weeping, the
dwellings of those who wronged themselves, lest the same chastisement should
fall upon you as it had fallen upon them.'' Messenger of
Allah (PBUH) then covered his head and sped up until he crossed the valley of
the tormented people.
Commentary: The Thamud were the people to whose guidance
Allah sent Prophet Salih. They lived between Al-Madinah and Syria( Petra).
In 10 A.H.
when the Prophet (PBUH) went to the Syrian border for the Tabuk expedition, he
also passed through this ruined territory.
This Hadith is related to the address
which he gave to his Companions on the occasion. Here is an instruction that
when we happen to pass through the territory of a nation destroyed in the past
as a result of Divine wrath, we are advised to quicken one's pace. That is why
we have been commanded to avoid the company of the corrupt and the wrongdoers,
lest we meet their bad end, too. As the Qur'an says:
"And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest
the Fire should touch you.'' (11:113)
Sheep Bones Teach a Lesson
a sheep.
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions ate it.
He
said: "Do not break its bones!" The Prophet gathered the bones and
put his holy hands upon them and prayed that the sheep be brought to life.
Allah heard his prayer and revived the dead sheep
KNOWLEDGE of self is the key to the knowledge of God
saying: "He who knows himself knows God,"[. Traditional saying of of Prophet Muhammad(s) ]] and,
as it is Written in
the Quran, "We will show them Our signs in the world and in themselves,
that the truth may be manifest to them.
" Now nothing is nearer to thee
than thyself, and if thou knowest not thyself how canst thou know
anything else? If thou sayest "I know myself," meaning thy outward
shape, body, face, limbs, and so forth, such knowledge can never be a
key to the knowledge of God
Nor, if thy knowledge as to that which is within only extends so
far, that when thou art hungry thou eatest, and when thou art angry
thou attackest some one, wilt thou progress any further in this path,
for the beasts are thy partners in this? But real self-knowledge
consists in knowing the following things: What art thou in thyself,
and from whence hast thou come? Whither art thou going,
and for what
purpose hast thou come to tarry here awhile,
and in what does thy real
happiness and misery consist? Some of thy attributes are those of
animals, some of devils, and some of angels,
and thou hast to find out
which of these attributes are accidental and which essential.
Till thou
knowest this, thou canst not find out where thy real happiness lies
THE POWER OF MOTHER
"The ranks I have achieved are the fruit of my mother's duas( prayers)
." One
night his mother asked for water. There was no water in the house.
It
was an extremely cold night. The young Baayazid (then a boy of 8) went
to the river to fetch some water.
The river was at a distance from the
house.
By the time he returned, his mother had fallen asleep.
Not
wanting to disturb his mother, he stood at her bedside holding the mug
of water least his mother opened her eyes.
The entire night passed with
Baayazid(r) waiting with the mug in his hand.
On account of the extreme
cold, the water had frozen. When his mother awoke, she was deeply
touched by her son's devotion and obedience.
The dua( prayer) which emanated
from her heart for Baayazid(r) reached its target(God) in the Divine Court( and thus Baayazid(r) was made the Prince of Saints just based on this one prayer of his mother coming from her heart .
KNOW YOUR SWORN ENEMY THE DEVIL - PART 4
Iblis (devil) called on Allah. "O my
Lord, Prophet Job's (p) wealth is gone, his children are dead, and he is still
healthy in body, and as long as he enjoys good health he will continue
to worship You in the hope of regaining his wealth and producing more
children.
Grant me authority over his body so that I may weaken it. He
will surely neglect worshiping You an will thus become disobedient."
Allah wanted to teach Iblis a
lesson that Job was a devoted servant of his Lord so He granted Iblis
his 3rd request but placed a condition: "I give you authority over his
body but not over his soul, intellect or heart, for in these places
reside the knowledge of Me and My religion."
Armed with this new authority,
Iblis began to take revenge on Job's (p) body and filled it with disease
until it was reduced to mere skin and bone and he suffered severe pain.
But through all the suffering Job remained strong in his faith,
patiently bearing all the hardships without complaining. Allah's
righteous servant did not despair or turn to others for help but
remained hopeful of Allah's mercy. Even close relatives and friends
deserted him.
Only his kind, loving wife stayed with him. In his hour
of need, she showered her kindness on him and cared for him. She
remained his sole companion and comforter through the many years of
suffering.
Ibn Asaker narrated: "Job (p) was
a man having much wealth of all kinds; beats, slaves, sheep, vast lands
of Haran and many children. All those favors were taken from him and he
was physically afflicted as well. Never a single organ was sound except
his heart and tongue, with both of which he glorified Allah, the
Almighty all the time day and night. His disease lasted for a long time
until his visitors felt disgusted with him. His friends kept away from
him and people abstained from visiting him. No one felt sympathy for
him except his wife. She took good care of him, knowing his former
charity and pity for her."
Therefore Iblis(devil) became
desperate. He consulted his helpers, but they could not advise him.
They asked : "How is it that your cleverness cannot work against Job(p),
yet you succeeded in misleading Adam the father of man, out of
Paradise?"
We seek the Neighbour first then the house later
O
Allah if we meet you and see you then what need we have for the house
the only condition we will stay in the house is thou should be visible
to us always and don't hide your blessed face from your lovers
Shall thou bribe thy lovers by Paradise when thou know very well we seek none but thee
THE ETERNAL FIGHT BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL- PART 2
Allah the Almighty states: And to Ad people We sent
their brother Hud. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no
other Ilah (god) but Him; Certainly, you do nothing but invent (lies)!
O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is
only from Him Who created me. Will you not then understand? And O my
people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will
send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your
strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimeen (criminals, disbeliveers in
the Oneness of Allah)."
They said: "O Hud! No evidence have you brought us
and we shall not leave our gods for your mere saying! We are not
believers in you. All that we say is that some of our gods (false
deities) have seized you with evil (madness)."
HE said: "I call Allah to witness and bear you
witness that I am free from that which you ascribe as partners in
worship, and with Him (Allah). SO plot against me, all of you, and give
me no respite. I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is
not a moving (living) creature but HE has grasp of its forelock.
Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth). SO if you turn
away, still I have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you.
My Lord will make another people succeed you, and you will not harm Him
in the least. Surely, my Lord is Guardian over all things." (Ch 11:50-57 Quran)
Hud tried to speak to them and to explain about Allah's
blessings: how Allah the Almighty had made them Noah's successors, how
He had given them strength and power, and how HE sent them rain to
revive the soil.
Hud's people looked about them and found they were the
strongest on earth, so they become prouder and more obstinate. Thus
they argued a lot with Hud. They asked "O Hud! Do you say that later we
die and turn into dust, we will be resurrected?" He replied, "Yes, you
will come back on the Day of Judgment and each of you will be asked
about what you did."
A peal of laughter was heard after the last statement. "How strange
Hud's claims are!" The disbeliveers muttered among themselves. They
believed that when man dies his body decays and turns into dust, which
is swept away by the wind. How could that return to its original state?
Then what is the significance of the Day of Judgment? Why does the dead
return to life?
THE ETERNAL FIGHT BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL- PART 1
The people of 'Ad lived many years in the windswept
hills of an area between Yemen and Oman. They were physically well
built and renowned for their craftsmanship especially in the
construction of tall buildings with lofty towers.
They were outstanding
among all the nations in power and wealth, which, unfortunately, made
them arrogant and boastful.
Their political power was held in the hand
of unjust rulers, against whom no one dared to raise a voice.
They were not ignorant of the existence of Allah, nor
did they refuse to worship Him.
What they did refuse was to worship
Allah alone. They worshipped other gods, also, including idols. This is
one sin Allah does not forgive.
Allah wanted to guide and discipline these people so He
sent a prophet from among them. This prophet was Hud (PBUH), a noble
man who handled this task with great resoluteness and tolerance.
Hud (PBUH) condemned idol worship and admonished his
people. "MY people, what is the benefit of these stones that you carve
with your own hands and worship? In reality it is an insult to the
intellect. There is only One Deity worthy of worship and that is Allah.
Worship of Him and Him alone, is compulsory on you.
He created you, He provides for you and He is the One
Who will cause you to die. He gave you wonderful physiques and blessed
you in many ways. So believe in Him and do not be blind to His favors,
or the same fate that destroyed Noah's people will overtake you."
With such reasoning Hud hoped to instill faith in them,
but they refused to accept his message. His people asked him: "Do you
desire to be our master with your call? What payment do you want?"
Hud (p)tried to make them understand that he would receive
his payment (reward) from Allah; he did not demand anything from them
except that they let the light of truth touch their minds and hearts.
KNOW YOUR SWORN ENEMY THE DEVIL - PART 1
A group of angels were
discussing Allah's other human creatures, how those who were humble
earned Allah's pleasure, while those who were arrogant incurred His
displeasure. One of the angels remarked: "The best creature on earth
today is Prophet Job(p), a man of noble character who displays great patience and
always remembers his Generous Lord.
He is an excellent model for the worshipers of Allah. In return, his Lord has blessed him with a long
life and plenty of servants, as well as the needy and the poor share in
his good fortune; he feeds and clothes the poor and buys slaves to set
them free. He makes those who receive his charity feel as if they are
favoring him so kind and gentle is he."
Iblis ( devil )overhearing all of
this, became annoyed. He planned to tempt Job (p) to corruption and
disbelief, so he hastened to him. He tried to distract Job from his
prayers by whispering him about the good things in life but Job was a
true believer and would not let evil thoughts tempt him.
This disturbed
Iblis ( devil) even more; thus he began to hate Job even more.
Even death can't do us apart- Part 2
Fatima (r) the most
beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad(s)
In Ramadan of the tenth year just before he went on his Farewell Pilgrimage,
the Prophet confided to Fatimah(r), as a secret not yet to be told to others:
" Jibril( Arch Angel Gabriel ) recited the Quran to me and I to him once every year, but this year
he has recited it with me twice. I cannot but think that my time has come."
On his return from the Farewell Pilgrimage(to Mecca), the Prophet(s) did become seriously
ill.
His final days were spent in the apartment of his wife Aishah(r).
When
Fatimah (r) came to visit him, Aishah (r)would leave father and daughter together.
One day he summoned Fatimah(r).
When she came, he kissed her and whispered some
words in her ear.
She wept. Then again he whispered in her ear and she smiled.
Aishah (r) saw and asked:
"You cry and you laugh at the same time, Fatimah? What did the Messenger of
God say to you?"
Fatimah(r) replied:
"He first told me that he would meet his Lord after a short while and so I
cried. Then he said to me: 'Don't cry for you will be the first of my household
to join me.' So I laughed."
Not long afterwards the noble Prophet(s) passed away. Fatimah(r) was grief-stricken
and she would often be seen weeping profusely.
One of the companions of Prophet (s) noted that
he did not see Fatimah(r), may God be pleased with her, laugh after the death of
her father.
One morning, early in the month of Ramadan, just less than five month after
her noble father had passed away, Fatimah (r) woke up looking unusually happy and
full of mirth. In the afternoon of that day, it is said that she called Salma
bint Umays (r) who was looking after her.
She asked for some water and had a bath.
She then put on new clothes and perfumed herself.
She then asked Salma (r)to put
her bed in the courtyard of the house. With her face looking to the heavens
above, she asked for her husband Ali(as).
He was taken aback when he saw her lying in the middle of the courtyard and
asked her what was wrong. She smiled and said: "I have an appointment today
with the Messenger of God."
Ali(as) cried and she tried to console him.
She told him to look after their sons
al-Hasan(as) and al-Husayn(as) and advised that she should be buried without ceremony.
She gazed upwards again, then closed her eyes and surrendered her soul to the
Mighty Creator.
She, Fatimah(r) the Resplendent One, was just twenty nine years old.
